hi there......
i got the OPTI card exchanged with SiS 6202. And i'm got it working with
the 86c201 driver (which in the README.SiS, says supports 6202 also). I
faced a few problems like lines on the screen and messed up windows, but
the command in the Device Sections ... option "noaccel" solved that.
The problem is that i'm using 8bpp, and it's no fun...I read the card's
specs and they say it can go 16.7 million colours with decent
resolution. But whenever i try the ... startx -- -bpp 16 (or 24 or 32)
it says it can't because of the following messages:
.....
(**) SVGA: Option "noaccel"
(**) SVGA: Using 16 bpp, Depth 16, Color weight: 565
(--) SVGA: Maximum allowed dot-clock: 135.000 MHz
(**) SVGA: Mode "640x480": mode clock = 31.500
(**) SVGA: Mode "800x600": mode clock = 40.000
(--) SVGA: Virtual resolution set to 800x600
(--) SVGA: SpeedUp code selection modified because virtualX != 1024
(--) SVGA: sis86c202: Can't find valid PCI Base Address
(--) SVGA: Disabling Linear Addressing
(--) SVGA: Try to set MemBase in XF86Config
(--) SVGA: SIS: Memory mapped I/O selected at 0x0b0000
(**) SVGA: Using hardware cursor
SVGA: Linear addressing is required for 16bpp
*** A configured device found, but display modes could not be
resolved.***
....
and i'm thrown out...i checked up my /proc/pci , and this is what it
has:
....
Bus 0, device 10, function 0:
VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems 6202 (rev 0).
Medium devsel. IRQ 255. Master Capable. No bursts.
Bus 0, device 7, function 1:
IDE interface: Intel 82371SB PII ....
....
I'm not getting a prefetchable (or a nonprefetchable for that matter)
address from this PCI SiS card..is this ok? because i think this is the
reason why i can't go linear addressing...
anyone with any advice?
thanx in advance, buddies :)
