Dir in color and Ghost script?

How do you make it so you get color when you type `dir'like in slackware
instead of having totype ls --color..

Also, I have an Epson Stylus Color 600 and I need a newer version of
Ghostscript (I think) than Red hat is allowed to ship on there CDs. Where
could I get that?
