That wont help a newbie at all.

1) Most install disks be it root/boot, will scroll to fast to be read by an
unexperianced eye.

2) Redhat clears the screen of messages before EVEN an experianced eye can
read them, i expect debian and friends will do the same, slackware seems to
be the only one (i know of) which lets you read the screen full of details.

The second line of your explanation is beter, however change 'insmod' for
'modprobe ne.o'
or
'modprobe ne io=0x300 irq=5' as per the Modules-HOWTO.gz
Of course substitute addresses for the correct ones, and yes, you can omit
the .o

Why modprobe ???,

Because modprobe not only loads the spesified module but its depancies also
and works from Kerneld via /etc/conf.modules like i explained in my message
over this very subject/question.

Someone else complained about "bogus information" here on this list only
last week, now i second his motion. Pity i cant remember who it was.

If you do not know the "correct answer" to what is being asked, then dont
answer, its as easy as that, or, say something like, the way i got my card
to work was by doing, bla bla bla, and then give a detailed explanation of
commands used, otherwise you not only make yourself look dubious, but you
confuse the question asker as well, causing him to possably panik thinking
his ethernet card or whatever it is, wont work under linux.

Of course i am not telling you to do anything, just suggestions, i say this
as there seems to be so much knife throwing and back stabbing going on here
since Friday, what was it, linux/win/dos lilo discussion... Personaly i find
it very disstastefull.

This list has been relatively free of flames, abusive words etc, for quite a
while, please folks lets keep up the standard here and not turn it into just
"another mailing list".
