Taking the advice of a coworker (manger actually - they are good for something after all), I used a boot disk to start the installation process, instead of the typical zero-floppy install. I suspect that the problem involved loadlin. In any case, SuSE is running fine, since that was the only distro with a handy bootdisk lying around. Thanks for everyone's input. -- David Johnson....
