A few checks:
- Run "free" to check how much memory is recognized by Linux. Some systems are
known to report an incorrect amount of memory to the OS.
- Run "top". This will show a list of all processes and their cpu time
consumption. Perhapes there is a program eating up all the cpu time.
- What filesystem you're using. If you do not know for sure, run "mount" to
check. The umsdos file-system can be horribly slow at times.
