Hi,

I bought a pre-installed Linux (Red Hat) system a few days ago. I am able
to login as root but I am unable to create new accounts because there
seems to be something wrong with the passwd utility.

Here's what's happening:

#adduser username
#passwd username
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
#

I am also unable to change my own (root) password and hence also my shell.

#chsh
Changing shell for root
Password error
#

I discovered that the /etc/shadow file is missing. Can anyone tell me how
I can rebuild it?

Thanks a lot.
