One way of the top of my head, is as user or root, does not matter,
ctrl-alt-backspace, kills X, then ctrl-alt-delete shuts down the computer,
you might want to change /etc/inittab first tho, normaly the three finger
salute is;
# What to do at the "Three Finger Salute".
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t5 -rfn now
-h # is halt.
