ppp not working

hello,
 i have a dual boot machine 95 and redhat5.0. my ppp connection work
find under win. but not in linux. i went through the book and set up the
scripts and tried minicom andseyon programs.  i can dial to the isp,
connect , and get all that stuff on the screen..but then nothing
happpens, and i get disconnected. i thought after i used redhats control
panel to set up the interface i would have ppp in the kernel.. but i can
not ping my dns server..
any suggestions?
