As someone new to Linux (10 days) only, I am very ignorant. I only had
120Mb hard disc so my partial installs left all sort of problams (Emacs
would not run etc). I got a 625 Mb disc last Saturday morning and finally
last night about midnight got RH4.2 running.
The problem was that on re-boot of LILO only LI came up and it locked up.
This was from a background of setting Cmos up with the right number of
cylinders etc. The first partion for SWAP was 50 Mb (hda1) and the
second the rest of the drive (hda2).
On trying to install dos (Yuk!) 6.20 it still just gave LI & locked. So I
left 1 cylinder (1Mb ) for partition 1, 50 Mb for partition 2, the
rest for partition 3 and put the boot option to the 1 Mb partition 1.
It worked! Phew!!! : ))) but I don't know why? May be
flakey hardware/motherboard? Any ideas?
