Hanging at "LI" usually means a problem with drive geometry. It's been a
long time since I've used a drive in this size range, but its size makes me
wonder if your earlier partitioning had the problem of going past cylinder
1024 (about 520 megs for drives in this size range) for the boot partition.
If so, your fix is for real and you should be able to live with it
indefinitely. To check, boot into the setup menu and see what CMOS says
about drive cylinders.
