To choose among the installed video modes, you use the ALT-CTRLl-+ or
ALT-CTRL-- (last one is minus) chord.

To install new video modes, you have to edit /etc/XF86config. You can do
this in many ways. The details depend on your Linux distribution, but one
that's always available (I think - does anyone know an exception?) is
running xf86config . This is also how you change the default video mode, by
changing which mode is listed first.
