Installing RH4.2 using Scsi CD & HD

I got my hands on a PC with a 2 Gb HD,  but its scsi using an Adaptec NTFS
AHA 1740 adapter.   The boot floppy behaves itself and when CDROM is
selected it asks what sort of device is selected.  I select SCSI and it
goes away and comes back with this message:-

Mount failed.  Block device required.


I know the system works because it is currently running Windows NT 4 (Yuk!)

What do I do next?  Currently baffled.  (I am a new user to Linux etc so
responses do need to be simple!)
