Ok, simple responses. The main one is that I have a bit of trouble following
your message. If you are getting error messages you don't understand, it's
better to quote than to paraphrase them (if you don't understand them, how
can you know you are paraphrasing correctly?). Also, it's good to bend over
backwards as regards providing detail; I'm not really sure where in the
install process you're hitting your problem, and my first set of questions
is intended to clarify that.

At what stage is the install failing? Is it failing to find your CDROM drive
or your hard disk? What sd* devices does the kernel assign to the CDROM and
the hard disk at boottime? Are you skipping the step of using fdisk to
create Linux (and swap, if applicable) partitions on your hard disk? What
device does it say it is failing to mount (will look something like
/dev/sda2 or /dev/sda)?

When you say you "select" SCSI, are you choosing it from a menu or typing it
at a prompt? If the latter, that's your problem. SCSI devices (disk drives
and CDROMs, that is) under Linux are designated with names like sda, adb,
sdc for the physical devices and sda1, sda2, sda3 and so forth for the
logical devices (partitions) on a physical device.

I'm not a Red Hat specialist, but 4.2 is kind of old (current is 5.2, I think).
