This is just a guess, but since Linux doesn't use the terminology "Com 1"
and "Com 2", I wonder if your paraphrase of what you did in configuring your
mouse conceals an error. In Linux. COM1 = /dev/ttyS0, and COM2 = /dev/ttyS1
. If you are trying to find a mouse on /dev/ttyS2, you won't since that
device entry doesn't correspond to a physical device on your system (as you
describe it).
Aside from that, since you say you have a 486, I assume Win95 wasn't doing
any Plug & Play configuring of ports, modems, whatever. If I'm wrong in this
assumption, that could be the cause of your problem.
