Well you should have them, indeed you must have, otherwise your system would
simply NOT work.
Read the Changes file again take a beter note of what is typed there.

- Procps                 1.2.9                   ; ps --version

Simply typing 'ps --version' should return the version number.
A small note, 1.2.9 is recomended, i am still using 1.2.7 with kernel 2.2.4
of course i might run into problems, but at least i have not yet.

Look at the list in the Changes file it tells you HOWTO check.
