An image named vmlinuz is a compressed kernel image. I believe vmlinux is
the uncompressed version. As to how big an uncompressed kernel can be I'm
not too sure. I know on my system I recently built a kernel for version
2.2.5 and it is about 950k. That's not even as big but I have made almost
evering modules and not built into the kernel. Hope that helps.
