there is really no "redhat only" software. the compatibility is with the   
linux kernel and the libraries you have installed (in particular libc).

with slackware you won't be able to extract rpm packages so download tgz   
packages instead. (or install rpm software).
if the download site have several versions of binar distrib, have a look   
on you system to see what libc you use.

and if all this does not work, then download the source package and   
compile it (i usually begin with this method, having the source is the   
main advantage of linux).
