Mike has given you one good answer.  I'll go at it from a different
angle.  If you're not ging to boot from the hd, the bios doesn't have to
know about it.  I have a bios that doesn't know what a CD is.  It knows
what the first hd is, and that the second channel is enabled, and that's
all it needs to know.  Linux takes care of the CD and anything I plug in
to the second channel.
