Let me say this,
I use a Cyrix 6x86 P166+ running on 133 Mhz 10x Cd-rom a 2Mb
videocard, 16 bit soundblaster and 64 Mb Edo SRam. This is what i use for
everyday purposes such as Webb browsing, E-mail, writing essays, playing Mp3,
some programming and learning how to use unix, I also administrate a (very)
small ftp/telnet server for my closest friends who wants to take advantage of
my speedy T3 connection and eventually ill master/write CD-R discs. This is
done under both X and console and i meet only slight speedproblems when i run
several heavy (read processor demanding) applications such as mp3 player and
picture manipulating programs such as gimp under X, kernel compiling is not
the fastest bussines either but not painfully slow. So i would say that with
this computer you suggest you would manage just fine to do most things. Of
course a dual P III 500 would be faster but that much processorpower is only
needed to solve equations in quantum physics or to run MS-word ;-)
I hope this helped you out.
