Oh, dear. Has your distro really set you up with a directory named
/mnt/floopy, or do you not know how to capture the output of commands to
include them in your letters? One way is to redirect the output into a
file with >, so:

ls -l /mnt >~/mntls

Then just include ~/mntls in your letter and you don't have to type that
stuff and confuse us with typos. :-).

or you can log the whole session with

script ~/try17

<commands>

exit

and include ~/try17 in your next letter.

Well, it doesn't look like you have mounted the floppy yet, so you are
not going to be able to read it. I guess you are having to shut down
linux and boot windows to send your mail? In that case, is the machine
you used to download these things the same as your linux machine? If
you have RedHat 5.2 you should be able to mount the win98 partition from
linux and not bother with the floppy. Leave that aside for now.

login as root

put the floppy in the drive.

mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
cd /mnt/floppy
ls -l
rpm -ivh *

If it doesn't like /mnt/floppy, you can try again with /mnt/floopy, but
I would be willing to bet a nickle that was a typo. Oh, one thing.
Spaces are significant.
mount /dev/fd0/mnt is not at all the same thing as
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt

In any case, with your setup, you don't want it on /mnt.
I hope you have just succeeded with the install, and that you will read
man mount and man rpm and man script to try and see why you did what you
did. :-)

Don't panic when you see an error. It is just the program apologising
that it couldn't do what you told it to, and trying to explain why, as
well as it knows how.

This mail client runs on Wine. Your mileage may vary.
