I have a Rage FURY, which has a Rage 128GL chip. I have talked to several
people who say they've gotten it working, and I've followed their
directions to the letter, but I have been completely unsuccessful. X keeps
telling me that support for my card is extremely experimental, and says
that, either a) the connection to the server was broken (server kill or
shutdown) or b) no screens found. I've even tried SVGA (256 color) and 16
color, and neither one works. I have not gotten X to run yet on my box.
Come on, people! Unfortunately, I am not a good enough programmer to write
my own driver, but I _know_ there has to be someone out there who has this
card running. Would you do all us bleeding-edge ATI adopters a BIG favor
and write us a list of how you got it working? We'd be very appreciative.
Heck, if I can get mine working, I'll write a HOWTO on it until X
officially supports it, or I'd be happy to work with anyone on this
project.
It's a great card! There's no reason why we should be forced to use
Windoze to take advantage of the best, IMHO, video card currently on the
market!
