Are there other distributions that use "anything" other than a
"linux-kernel" then, ??

In my opinion, witch is up till now, more than 7 years, the best
distribuition to "tweak" is Slackare, it might be old as some call it, but
in my opinion "The best" take that from one who has tryed Debian, Redhat and
SuSe, amounst others.
I have nothing against any of the above mentioned distributions, they are
all excelent, its just for "me" at least Slackware comes out the best and
easyest.
As to the "asbestos longjohns" you dont need them with me, if anyone
wants to try someother distro, then i will not stand in thier way, but i
will say, "I did warn you".

Ah!, yes "books" well try the "book" in cdrom format which is included on
Redhat's cd's, Its called, "Getting started with Linux" by Mr. Welsh or was
it "Walsh", i cant look to check at this minute as my cdrom is not connected
to the system, i have been experimenting with whats called "PTS-DOS" which
is used in some machines from my work. {Did i say "dos"}...........
