What problems are you experiencing when you try to use the apps?
>From the standpoint of the Linux host, it should be able to run them (ping,
traceroute, nslookup) through any properly configured router (in your case,
the NT host). If you are already able to telnet and http through the NT host
by hostname (not just by IP address), that implies that you have the DNS
stuff set up right on either the Linux host or the NT host.
Or are you using the NT/Wingate host as a proxy server rather than a true
router? In that case, the apps you're interested in will work only if the
proxy server itself supports them specifically. Wingate appears (from a
quick look at its home page) to be intended to work as a proxy
server/firewall, not a general purpose router, and that will limit you to
using the services that it is willing to pass through.
If you are running into problems, they are most likely on the NT/Wingate end
of things, an area in which this list is unlikely to be rich in expertise.
