Java and Linux woes

This may not be the best forum, but I am desperate.

Has anyone here managed to get Java to work with Linux, either the jdk
(1.1.7 or 1.2) or kaffe {both from tarball}

If so
1. Did you get a ClassNotDefException ?
2. Did you configure kaffe to use different names ? and how did that
work?
