Possibly, you are only missing the default runlevel line from inittab,
and you might try answering 3 (for slackware multiuser) or 4 I _think_
for RedHat. If all else fails, you might try the rescue option from the
RedHat install (you'll need boot.img and supp.img, I think), or a
slakcware rescue boot and root combo, or the slackware text install,
just don't type setup when it tells you to, and you have a minamal linux
system. Just remember your / is now on /mnt and you have to adjust
accordingly. (the rescue linux system is on /, and it has (or you can)
mount your root partition on /mnt))
