RedHat upgrade

I presently have RH 5.1 which includes the fvwm xwindow system. If I
install RH 5.3 with the kde....
1. can I install the 5.3 (upgrade) or do I have to wipe clean and start
over.

2. If I can install on top (upgrade) on top of the 5.1 will kde also be
installed for me or is it more complicated than that.
