Problem with PPP

Hi all:
        I'm having an occassional problem with ppp. Most of the time I am making
connections okay but maybe 20% of the time I get a refused connection with
the following message in /var/log/message:
                
                linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module ppp-compress-1

        Also, I'm not getting a display of the dynamically assigned IP in either
command-line or X.  This has only been with the 2.2.x kernels in Suse 6.1
and RH 6.0, was working properly under RH5.2.

        Any suggestions?
