xterm: no available ptys

Hi,

Help! I am in trouble: the xterm is gone.  error message: no available
ptys.

Before I logged out and shutdown the computer yesterday, everything was
fine. That just happened this morning.  No xterm, no rxvt.  Now, I have to
use KDE's terminal to send this email.   pls help me get recovered.

It shows that xterm does not work in KDE either.

I am using Redhat 6.0. kernel 2.2.9   Normally, I use gnome+WindowMaker.
