Or you could setuid on pppd . This is a potential problem on a true
multi-user system, but if you're doing this from a workstation, it should be
no problem. Probably entering (as root)
chmod +s /usr/sbin/pppd
will do it for you (change the path if that's not where you have pppd). If
not, either the PPP HowTo or perhaps the gnome-dialer docs will cover
anything else that is needed.
