A "segmentation fault" (not "default") occurs when a program tries to access
memory that is not assigned to it -- for example, when a C program tries to
read or write an array using an index value larger than the size of the
array. In context, this means the program is written in a way that causes a
runtime error that the compiler missed.
I don't know the program "xpinguin" so can't give you specific advice about
it, but possibilities include simply a bad compile and a mismatch with some
shared library. You don't say if you are installing from source or a binary;
if the former, what compiler are you using? If the latter, where are you
getting the binary from, and is a source install an option for you?
You may need to report this problem to whoever wrote the program, preferably
with as much detail as you can provide (for example, does it segfault
immediately or only after some particular action on your part?).
Don't know if any of this is sufficiently useful for you. If not, sorry.
