All,
Thanks for the help in my recent questions. I've finally got Linux up
and running pretty smoothly. Now we can get to the not so obvious
questions, which brings me to the modem lights app. I've currently got
it 'working', but the lights do not work for Rx and Tx. Here's my setup:
Advanced:
Modem lock file: /var/lock/LCK..ttyS2
Device: /dev/ttyS2
General:
Updates/sec : 5
Connect command: /usr/sbin/usernetctl ifcfg-ppp0 up
Disconnect command: /usr/sbin/usernetctl ifcfg-ppp0 down
Confirm connection checked
I'm pretty sure the problem is in my connect/disconnect commands. The
defaults that were there before I entered these seemed to be lower level
commands, not just the scripts that I'm running here. I'm guessing that
the modem lights app has no way to communicate with the modem device
specifically since I've set up the commands to my scripts. Or maybe I'm
way off base, and it's something to do with my device settings?
Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.
Paul
PS - Here's an easy one. What's the best/quickest way to end an xwindows
session, without logging off? Is it possible just to drop the X
environment, and go back to the shell? I know /sbin/telinit 3
accomplishes this (or something similar), but what if I'm not root?
