I am wanting to set up a printer server in our lab. I am a newbie and have a few questions before I dive in. Here's the setup: I have a Mac 6100 that is not in use. It has 32MB and a 500MB HD. Right now it is running OS 8 (I think- we haven't used it in some time). I plan to reformat it and place RH 5.2 on it to run a printer server. The two printers that I want to connect are the HP 895 and the Apple 16/600 PS. The users of these printers will be several Windoze 95 machines and a Mac 7500 and 7100. First of all, is this a possibility? We are experiencing difficulties using our Win95 machines as printer servers because AppleTalk is not well liked by our network configuration in our university. This makes printing from our Macs very slow. I am hoping this will be rectified with a Linux server. Second and finally, I have never installed Linux on a Mac. Will the same boot disk and installation procedure apply? Thanks in advance. Hopefully this will influence others in the university to use Linux and broaden its influence here since noone uses Linux here except for our CCIT dept. They unfortunately are very ...shall we say...poor in their computer skills compared to other CCIT depts. Thanks again. Regards-Dave === David C.
