two suggestions in Unix Power Tools involve adding -i to the rm
process. One is making an interactive prompt:
alias rm='/bin/rm -i'
Another option is to create a file called -i in the directory/ies that
you want extra protection. But it is dangerous to become comfortable
with a prompt before deleting on your computer because one day you may
be using my computer (or somebody elses) that has no -i catcher. There
is also a passage about writing a script that creates a kind of 'trash
can'. Unix Power Tools is a cool O'Reilly book.
