This reminds me of a true classic I once did a couple of years ago. I'd
managed to get my machine up and running on a dual boot - *plus* I even had
access to my 2Gb of DOS stuff by getting them to mount on /dosc and /dosd.
However, I decided that I needed to reinstall the copy of Slackware I was
using. I spent a couple of hours carefully choosing everything I thought I'd
need from the linux partition and copying it to an archive in /dosd. Then I
cheerfully logged in as root and typed:

  rm -rf /*

Read the above paragraph again, bearing in mind the fact that I hadn't taken
a backup for two years...
