I had problems with a pcmcia Smart Media flash card adapter on 2.2.9.
Removing the card would cause a NULL pointer dereference and panic the
kernel. Required a hard reboot. It, sort of, worked on some previous
kernel verisions. It wouldn't cause a NULL pointer dereference but it
would, once in a long while, hang trying to remove the IDE1 interface
(the flash card shows up as another IDE drive on a new controller). Didn't
seem to matter what version PCMCIA I used, 3.0.9, 3.0.10, 3.0.11, 3.0.12,
or the bleeding edge snapshot of 3.0.13. Upgrading to 2.2.10 kernel
fixed the NULL pointer dereference and I have not experienced a single
hang removing the card, to date (they are the "film" cards for my digital
camera, so they get inserted and removed alot). Only anomoly I see is
one single "IDE1: Unexpected Interrupt" whenever I remove a card. Doesn't
seem to do any harm though.

So my experience agrees... Problems with 2.2.9, fixed in 2.2.10.
