You haven't told us anything about the internal modem or how you've tried to
get Linux to "see" it, so all I (or anyone) can give you is general advice.

1. Find out if it is a real modem or an HSP modem ("Winmodem"). To do this,
get the FCC ID number off the card and check it against the database at
http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html . If it is an HSP modem, stop
here; it won't work with Linux under any circumstances. If it isn't, go on
to the next step. (Short cut: almost any PCI modem is HSP (only 2 known
exceptions last time I checked). ISA and PCMCIA modems can be either kind.)

2. Check what IRQ and IO base port Windows sees it on. Also check if it is
being configured in Windows via PnP. If it is using PnP, refer to the PnP
HowTo to see how to use isapnp to configure it under Linux. If it isn't, go
on to the next step.

3. Note during Linux boot if the kernel is seeing any serial port on the IRQ
you noted in step 2. If it does, use setserial to set a /dev/ttyS* entry to
that IRQ (and IO base) and try to access the modem. If it doesn't, them
something is wrong from a prior step.

My best guess is that you have an HSP modem so will find yourself stopped at
step 1. As a consequence, I've left steps 2 and 3 pretty vague ... so if you
do find that the internal is a real modem, and you need additional help,
don't hesitate to post again.
