What distro? Slackware runs a GUI login in runlevel 4, RedHat (and
presumably RedHat take-offs) in runlevel 5. Just look in /etc/inittab
and see which runlevel runs xdm. Usually there is at least one getty
that permits a text login at the GUI runlevel, but you normally have to
switch vt's to get to it.

You might have to look at the scripts run from /etc/inittab to see which
one runs xdm, but really, it is not that hard. :-)

This mail client runs on Wine. Your mileage may vary.
