That's a thought ....  I assumed it was global.
The same list/table showed root(user) as well, passwd encrypted.
 I tried to give myself access to 'everything'.
The directory was setup automatically as /home/herman. No questions
 asked.
 That should have been /root/herman (?) I guess.
 (I'll test it out.)

When I (now) tried to add the same username from root/bash
 it said: User exists already.
 But the password that goes with the username did not
 work. (Login incorrect.)

Thanks to all who wrote.
It IS working fine from the command-line.
I HAVE access as user. I tried 'su' already.
