Hi !
I can only speak for RedHat 5.2 and SuSE 6.0.
RedHat comes with a program called sndconfig and it is very easy to get
your soundcard run. With SuSE using a 2.0.xx kernel that came with SuSE you
have to recompile the kernel (yea, SuSE did a clever job with that !).
So to give a more specific answer, what distribution do you have ? Which
kernel do you run ? What soundcard do you have ?
I have no probs using a SB AWE 64 and managed to get a SoundPort 1864 chip
to work (with RedHat !).
