There is also a thrid party company called 4 Front Tech (www.opensound.com) 
which they provide sound drivers for Alot of sound card, and very easy to
configure.  Cost ah $20 though, you can download a demo at www.opensound.com

The only other thing to watch out for, if it is an old sound card it will have
jumpers for IRQ and maybe even DMA and I/O, make sure these aren't conflicting
with any other devices in your system.  If it is a new sound card, (ie. no jumpers)  
The drivers provided by the url above will configure it for you.
