daemon is a background process. Somewhat similar to TSRs in Dos. Generally
a daemon is started when the m/c boots up and stopped when m/c is
shutdown. Many examples are sendmail(when run with option -bd), inetd
etc., For more details refer The design of Unix OS - Murice J Bach. Even
the Unix Primer chapter of Unix Network Programming has some details.
