That should presentno problems at all, i use 'fetchmail'
fetchmail mailserver.ISP
for example
/tmp# fetchmail mail.zeelandnet.nl
I then have to enter my passwd which my ISP assigned me and in comes my
mail.
Enter password for [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
