Getting printer to work in redhat 5.2

Hello
Im trying to set up an HP deskjet 500 in redhat 5.2.
I configured it using printtool and i turned the lpr daemon on
during boot.
When i test the page, i get this:

lpr: connect: Connection refused
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.

Any help is greatly appreciated
