You say DHCP which is for getting a dynamic ip# via a cable modem or the
likes, you then say dailup which indicates PPP.
In either case;
ifconfig eth0 | grep inet | awk '{print $2}' | cut -b6-22
ifconfig ppp0 | grep inet | awk '{print $2}' | cut -b6-22
Of course ifconfig will show the whole configuration. The above will only
show the IP#.
