linux won't start

Hello, can anyone help me with that (see subject)? What happens is that lilo
boots, till 'starting linuxconf and starting local'. Starting linuxconf is
OK'ed and starting local is not OK'ed and the computer freezes up. I have
rebooted twice but no luck. Yesterday I did nothing strange, I didn't delete
anything, but when I closed the computer I did 'shutdown -rfn now' which
makes the shutdown procedure faster. Is that a problem? I don't even come to
the login-screen.
