There must be some problem in /etc/rc.d/rc.local which is stopping the boot
process going any further.
I suggest you type init 1 at the LILO prompt when booting that should allow
you to gain access to your h/d, it will not start any of the scripts.
Check then if you can see what is happening, you possably have added a
command which is not responding. You could also send rc.local to the list
for inspection.
