        On linux, you can use the following perl command to strip (or insert
carriage-returns, \r).

        perl -pe 's:\r::g;' windowstext > linuxtext
        perl -pe 's:$:\r:;' linuxtext > windowstext

        On windows, add (a shortcut to) Wordpad to your SendTo list
(\WinNt\Profiles\Default User\SendTo).  Then you can view linux files
easily by >file<[SendTo:Wordpad] (left-mouse click on the file, point
to SendTo, click on Wordpad).
