setting up my email

Hi folks....
I'm trying to setup my email so that I can receive and send  via my
linux box.  I would like use pine as my email reader.  I have RH5.2 and
can connect to my ISP and surf the web just fine.  My question is, how
do I configure lunix or pine so that it when ever I'm connected to my
ISP it will check their mail server for mail and download it to my box?
