A registery? God I hope not!
Anyway, do you have X set to 256 colors? Sometimes it does that when it
runs out of colors. Maybe you should bump the colors up to 16bits (65,000
or so colors) just to be sure. I used to have that problem when I ran
abuse with 256 colors. You said you were having trouble with your video
card -- maybe you forgot to tell sax or whatever the correct number.
Not sure if that is your problem -- just a guess.
