If you mount your CDROM drive through your fstab file, check and see if
the CDROM line in your fstab file has the 'noexec' option in it.  If it
does, remove that option.  IIRC most distros add that option to any
CDROM drive mount line in the fstab.  Or was it any removable drive? 
Now I don't remember.  But anyway, I'd start by taking a look at your
fstab.
